On the previous posts I wrote about; What is a blog?, How to start a blog in blogger.com, How to customize your blogger blog widths, Choosing the best blogging platforms, Unlocking the header element so that you can add more gadgets as well as Importance of blogging. Today I am going to share with you the techniques, tips and tricks you can apply when you want to customize your blog's columns. When I speak about customizing your blog's columns, I mean adding, reducing or controlling the number of columns in your blogspot blog. Having a blog template with two or more columns contributes to not only to the good look and feel of your blog, but also the easy user navigation especially if you'll add links to the sidebar or even host/place ads (advertisements for monetizing your blog or website). Fortunately, the blogger's dashboard is pretty easy to navigate, and on top of that, it lets you modify and control your blog's template in a variety range of ways. Follow the simple tricks below that will guide you through the initial steps for modifying your blog's columns. 1. Go to the blogger's dashboardLog in into your blogger account and navigate to the blogger's main page. 2. Go to the blogger's template designerWithin the section of your blog's title, look at the right hand side where you will see the orange pencil button and the gray button with a drop down arrow. Click on the drop down arrow and select Template. 3. Click on the 'Customize' buttonActually, there are two modes letting bloggers to customize their blogs' templates which include Customizing by simply clicking on the links and buttons using a mouse pointer and the HTML mode that is specifically designed for people with high HTML skills and experiences. For our case, click on the Customize button. Clicking this, you will be taken to the blogger's template designer screen, which is our main destination. 4. Click on the 'Layout' TabHave a glance to the right section of the screen where you will see the navigation menu, and from that menu select Layout. 5. Select the layout you preferUnder the Body layout section, specify the number of columns by clicking on the layout thumbnail containing the number of columns you want. You can also specify the columns on of the footer section of your blog's template. Simply click any of the three thumbnails in under the footer layout section 6. Adjust widths for each columnClick on the Adjust widths tab located to the right hand side of the interface. Click and drag each slider to increase and decrease widths for each column. Normally, for a column you want to make it a main column where your posts will appear on, must be wider than the one(s) supposed to work as sidebar(s). 7. Save changesAfter you've finished specifying how many columns and how wide or narrow you want them to be, click on the Apply to blog button located to the top right corner to make your modifications take effects.
