Introduction

Gmail is a web-based email service run by a Google Company. It allows individuals, Companies, brands and organizations communicate via electronic mailing technology where text messages and attached files are transferred from one computer user to another over the internet.

As other e-mail services, using Gmail platform a user has to create an account and get granted with a unique user Id or E-mail Address (Gmail Address).

Signing Up or creating a new Gmail account is so simple than you thought it was. The simple steps below will give you an experience on creating a free Google mail account.

First step

Go to the Google Sign Up page. There are many ways to access the Gmail Sign Up page. An easy and trustful one is to type the Google's Home page's Uniform Resource Locator or web address: https://www.google.com (on the web browser's address bar). After you have entered correctly the web address hit the Enter or Return key on your keyboard. Click on the Gmail link located to the top right of the screen as shown below.

Second step

Click Create new Account below the log in fields.

Third step

Fill in the required details/information. Here you're required to provide your personal information as follows:-

  • Your Names: There are two fields that require you input your names. Typing your first name in the first field (labeled as first name) and your last name into the second field (located to the right and labeled last).
  • Your username: Type in your username. Your username can be formed by the combination of your first and last name. Or you can use any phrases if you don't want to use your really names to create a username from.

    Google allows the combination of numbers, letters and periods. If you prefer, you can implement them. Remember that you suppose to enter your username only, the rest (@ symbol and gmail domain name) is automatically filled for you.

    Your username plus an @ symbol as well as gmail.com will form your email address or ID. So consider choosing an easy-to-remember username so that your friends will be able to keep it into their heads easily.

  • Password: After you have filled your fist and last names as well as username, you will come to the field that require you fill in your password. You will use this password every time you're about to log into your gmail or other Google services.

    Make it simple to you so that you don't forget it. Use at least 8 characters. Google recommends not using a password from another website, or something easily guessed such as your really name, nickname, etc. The password is for securing your email account against hackers and other malware related conducts.

    Retype your password in the Reconfirm Password box to make sure you typed it correctly.

  • Bithday: Click on the up+down arrow field to bring up the list of months. Select the month on which you were born. Type the date of your birth day and year in the Day and Year fields respectively.
  • Gender: Select your gender. There are three gender options: Male, Female and others. Select the gender that fits you.
  • Mobile Phone Number & Email: These two fields are considered as optional which means its your choice, whether you fill them or not. But I recommend filling them as they will help you retain back your Gmail account if somebody hacks it or if you forget your passwords.

    Click on the down arrow located to the right side of the mobile number field and select your country. Type in your area code and your full phone numbers in the number field.

Fourth step

Type in the CAPTCHA text to prove that the Gmail Sign Up process is done by a really person and not an automated system (Robot). There is a check box within the CAPTCHA field that allows users to skip this step. If you skip this step, you will be required to verify through your mobile phone.

If the current CAPTCHA text seems to confuse you, you can request another by clicking on the Refresh icon located to the right. Or you may prefer getting this Text read loudly for you by clicking on the Speaker icon, but this requires your computer being able to play sounds. Fill in the CAPTCHA and head on to the next step.

Fifth step

Select your country of residence. Click on the Up+Down arrow field to select your country.

Sixth step

Click on the Check box to agree to the Google Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Verify your Account. This step requires you prove that you're a really person who will use this account and will be responsible or liable for any conduct that may happen during the usage of the service.

Select the method you want to verify your account through (Text messages or Voice call), and then click on the Continue button as shown on the screenshot below:

Seventh step

Enter your verification code. After you've received your account verification code you'll have to enter them into the required field. When you're through with typing the verification code, click on the continue button to complete the sign up process.

Eighth step

You will come to the New Google account Welcome screen as shown above. Click on Get Started button to go to your Personal Info interface that allows users configure their account settings such as changing passwords, upgrading to Google plus, and view account history.

Ninth step

To go to your mailbox/inbox, type gmail.com on your browser's address bar and click enter. You'll see three email messages from Google team. To open each of these email, simply click on its title.

You can also be prompted to import your contacts. These are email addresses of your friends and other people you know.

Now you have a gmail account that will make you capable of accessing different google's online services, such as blogger, Adsense, Products Forums, Analytics, Developers tools, Google+, etc. Enjoy your way!!
