What is a web browser?

The Web browser or Internet browser as it is sometimes called is the software program that is specifically designed for displaying the information located on the Worldwide Web/Internet in a specific manner. The web browser displays the web pages which are the containers handling information on the web.

The Web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator and Google chrome are referred to as Fully-featured web browsers as they can display all kinds of information such as sounds, video, images and 3D texts. They can also display software programs that are embedded on the web pages.

However there are Tex-based browsers which display only text, ignoring graphics, animations and embedded software. Good examples of these kinds of browsers are Lynx, W3m, Net-Tamer and Emacs/W3. They do not display graphics and animations, but text only.

From now onwards, you have to keep in your mind that you can not surf the web and navigate the Internet without the web browser.

Some of the web browsers have gained the high popularity on the Web due to their functionalities and compatibilities with other web technologies and software. Examples of these popular Internet browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Netscape Navigator, Safari and Opera.

Internet Explorer (IE)
Internet Explorer is the product of Microsoft Corporation. Fortunately, Internet Explorer comes with the Windows Operating system. This means when you install/re-install Windows OS (any version) on your PC, you will have Microsoft Internet Explorer installed automatically.

Note that Internet Explorer has different versions, so if you don’t feel comfortable using a version that came with an Operating System (Windows), you can find another version by either downloading it on the Internet or from the software shops so that you can install it on your PC. It’s used by the high number of PC users than other Web Browsers.

Mozilla Firefox
This browser is a product of Mozilla Corporation. It’s among the most used internet browsers on the web/internet technology. Mozilla as other types of Internet browsers is designed for interpreting the web resources (files, videos, graphics, etc.) so that they are displayed correctly to the users. It features as the same screen elements as other browsers such as the Address bar, Menu bar, Toolbar and other common features. Firefox browser can work on PCs having Windows OS, Linux and OS X installed in.

Safari
Safari, a product of Apple Inc. is another browser designed to work on Mac and Windows Operating Systems as well as iPhone and iPod. With Safari, you can browse the web and do as many additional tasks. For instance you can play online computer games, play music, watch movies, videos and even Television Shows. You can also shop or purchase and pay bills online safely and intuitively.

Google Chrome
Google Chrome is another Internet browser developed and supplied or distributed by the Google company. It is featured with all the essential functionalities and elements and it can display almost all kinds of resources such as graphics, text, animations and 3-D texts just to mention a few.

Other browsers
Other browsers include Netscape Navigator/communicator and Opera. They can work on all the major Operating systems such as Microsoft Windows OS, OS X, etc.
