What is Facebook?

Facebook is a free social networking website allowing anyone to register, create profiles, upload and share video and photos, send messages (both text and images) and generally keep in touch with other facebook users (friends, family members, schoolmates, etc) all-over the World.

As I said above, facebook is a free platform for anyone exceeding the age of 13 years, but to use it you have to join by creating your personal facebook account by using pre-registered e-mail accounts.

Being founded in 2004 by a Harvard University student, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook supports about 70+ languages (2014), an opportunity that enables anybody to participate on facebook by using any language he/she prefers. Facebook is now the most popular free social networking site connecting a big number of people all over the World.

Facebook has different features as mentioned below:

Facebook Pages
Facebook allows users (any registered user) to create and promote pages about a variety number of specific topics. Any Facebook approved user is allowed to create and promote fan pages based on any topic depending on his or her interests. The facebook or fan pages as they are sometimes called, can be under an individual person, organization or a company showcasing their daily activities and events.

Facebook Groups
Facebook allows users/members to build micro-communities (commonly known as Groups) based on different common interests. People join groups for sharing their interests and express their opinions, post messages and photos. Anyone can comment on a post displayed on the group’s page.

Marketplaces
These allows facebook users to view, read and respond to the classified Ads. Launched in 2007, facebook marketplace App allows people to buy or sell products and do other business issues online.

Additionally facebook offers you the privacy options for you to decide whether your facebook profile will be viewed publicly or privately or you can specify some people who will be able to interact with you on facebook. It’s also possible to make your facebook posts viewable by people you specify, leaving the rest number of your friends unable to see your posts. This ensures your privacy is secured, instead of letting everyone know almost everything you do on facebook.

Lastly, I am reminding you that, facebook is a free Web portal, this is to say there is no payment needed when you want to register, join or create your facebook account/profile. If you want to learn more on how to create or register with facebook, go to our facebook account registration tutorials
