The computers are categorized or classified according to their size and capability in processing data and performing instructions. The following are the most common types of computers:- Personal computersPersonal computers are the computers which are single-user computers and popularly known as less powerful than all types of computers. They have a small and weak microprocessor, a keyboard for entering data and commands in the system, the monitor for showing the system’s contents and usually with the mouse typically used for interacting with items (Icons, Buttons, links etc.) on the computer screen. They are built to perform complex computation, such as in transaction processing applications. Mainframe computersThese are the computers that are shared by multi-users, connected to the other computers via terminals. They are built for intensive computational activities. They are larger than minicomputers, workstations and PCs. Mainframes can supports about hundreds or thousands of users simultaneously.
