Double clicking is a process of pressing and releasing twice the mouse button as quickly as possible. Unlike other types of mouse clicking such as left clicking, right clicking as well as click and drag, double click helps us open or execute items quickly.

Double click works both in Microsoft Windows and Macintosh Operating Systems. Keep in your mind that, the second click must be performed immediately after the first, otherwise the computer system will interpret the clicks as two separate clicks and not double click as it was intended.

As stated above, double clicking enables users to open files, folders, programs as well as perform other related tasks. Practically to speak, double click is an alternative way of opening files and folders instead of Right clicking item and select Open.

Double click in text editor programs such as WordPad, Notepad, Microsoft Word and Publisher plays an important roles especially in selecting or highlighting blocks of text. When you double click while the mouse pointer is located within a word, that word will be selected. You can also triple click within a paragraph to select it.

In Microsoft Publisher and Word, you can double click on the Autoshapes and Text boxes to display the format Autoshape/Text box dialog box. If you double click on WordArt objects, the Edit WordArt dialog box will be displayed on the interface.
