Sometime you can find you no longer need to use some of the icons found on your desktop. There are methods or ways that will help you remove them permanently from your desktop. Follow the procedures below:

  1. Open the display properties dialog box, by clicking start button >Control Panel >Appearance and Themes >Change the Desktop Background (make sure the Desktop Tab is selected)
  2. Click on the ‘Customize Desktop’ button
  3. Under desktop cleanup select Clean Desktop Now
  4. Follow instructions provided by the wizard to get unused/shortcut icons removed from your desktop

Another method you can use for removing unwanted icons from your desktop is simply right clicking on an icon, then select delete, click yes to confirm that you want to delete an item.
